Summary

Responsible for managing the daily execution of all banquet and event operations at the Club. Supervises banquet service personnel to assure member and guest satisfaction through proper food and beverage service and presentation. Maximizes the club's profitability from the catering function. Assists management team in all other outlets of club when needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners closely with the Events Director, Executive Chef, Banquet Set Up team, Director of Operations, and Director of Food & Beverage to coordinate requirements for private functions.
  • Assures proper inventory of all banquet service equipment and supplies to meet required needs for each event.
  • Oversees the banquet and set-up staff schedule to ensure appropriate coverage based on the calendar of scheduled events.
  • Performs final walkthrough prior to events to confirm set-up and d├ęcor are in accordance with the banquet event order (BEO).
  • Regularly inspects event spaces, back-of-house service areas, and related equipment to ensure sanitation, safety, energy management, and preventative maintenance comply with department standards.
  • Conducts regular training with banquet staff on service standards related to the various banquet event service styles (e.g., plated, buffet, passed hors d'oeuvres, etc.)
  • Assists Director of Food & Beverage in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of F&B Department staff.
  • Directly supervises banquet service and banquet set-up staff and subordinate supervisors; including, scheduling, directing work, appraising performance, counseling, and performance coaching.
  • Performs closing manager duties for each event (or confirms the manager working the event performs assigned closing duty tasks).
  • Conducts accurate after-event billing and evaluations to improve quality and efficiency of banquet functions.

Other Functions

  • Ensures compliance of operating guidelines as it relates to all state and federal laws, rules and regulations relating to the Alcohol, Cigarette, and Tobacco Division, food safety and sanitation. Upholds all ServSafe guidelines.
  • Develops and documents standard operating procedures for banquets.
  • Ensures the proper cost and revenue controls for all banquet alcoholic beverage service.
  • Makes certain that banquet event closings procedures are followed.
  • Recommends for the replacement and upgrading of banquet service equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility

Manages one subordinate supervisor who supervises a total of up to 20 employees in the Food & Beverage Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also, directly supervises up to 20 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Experienced managing large banquets (500+ attendees), as well as small private events, such as private dinners.
  • Knowledgeable on multiple styles of event service, such as plated, buffet, and passed hors d'oeuvres.
  • Innovative to develop new opportunities to respond to the needs of an ever-changing, diverse membership.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks such as beverage and labor cost, while maintaining required standards of operation in banquet/event activities.
  • Ability to effectively conduct job interviews and determine applicability of experience and qualifications of job applicants.
  • Able to develop and conduct effective training programs for banquet/event service.
  • High level of demonstrated integrity and ethical standards, with a strong sense of urgency, operational focus, and results-orientation.
  • Articulate with excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional rapport with vendors, executives, Board members, and members.
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor and appearance; acting as an ambassador of the Club, on and off property.
