Shared Vision



Responsible for all aspects of merchandising including buying soft goods, accessories and equipment, selling, visual appearance, promotions and inventory control in all retail avenues. Under the direction of the Director of Golf, the goal is to achieve a reasonably low cost of sales and acceptable gross profit while assuring the highest level of member service and satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops an open-to-buy program for the entire retail department and ensures it is maintained to help guide future merchandise decisions. Controls inventory levels to maximize profits.
  • Evaluates business and long-range marketing plans supporting department goals.
  • Prepares monthly reports and forecasts evaluating financial components based on trends and knowledge of future events.
  • Ensures purchasing and receiving, including all special orders, is completed in an organized and timely manner.
  • Trains, motivates and develops retail staff to ensure effective performance and growth.
  • Negotiates with all vendors to ensure the best possible payments plans, terms and discounts. Manages vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objective.
  • Offers high quality merchandise by attending trade shows to keep up with latest trends and industry education.
  • Plans and implements different merchandise sales.
  • Oversees the ticketing and displaying of merchandise and the general maintenance and cleanliness of the shop.
  • Ensures that all goods were received as ordered with no discrepancies. Prepares invoices in timely fashion for the approval of the Director of Golf.

Other Functions

  • Oversees inventory adjustments through Jonas.
  • Anticipates needs, identifies potential problems and implements solutions before the problem becomes an issue.
  • Prepares articles and publications for the Club.
  • Authorizes retail returns and ensures proper credit and/or adjustment.
  • Attends weekly department meetings.
  • Works with Ibis associations for tournament prizes and team uniforms and equipment.
  • Assists with special club events (i.e. Member Guest) and works with committee chair.
  • Promotes activities and functions offered throughout the Club.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly supervises employees of the Golf Retail Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience   

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior supervisory experience required.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills

  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office, Point of Sale system, payroll system, and inventory tracking.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Extensive retail background, including buying experience.
